Pinggu District's alternative protein action plan is released, and Fushine ushers in new opportunities in the microbial protein track!


In October 2024, Beijing issued an announcement to solicit public opinions on the "Action Plan for Accelerating the Innovation and Development of the Alternative Protein Food Industry in Pinggu District, Beijing (2025-2027) (Draft for Comments)".

Pinggu District and the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission recently jointly issued the "Action Plan for Accelerating the Innovation and Development of the Alternative Protein Industry in Pinggu District, Beijing (2025-2027)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan"). This plan, the city's first district-level implementation plan for the green economy, aims to develop Pinggu District into a leading domestic alternative protein industry cluster with a value of hundreds of billions of yuan.

The plan focuses on five strategic directions: breakthroughs in underlying key technologies, platform-enabled research and application, scenario-driven demonstration and promotion, fostering and strengthening emerging industries, and collaboratively promoting regional development. It systematically deploys 14 key tasks across four key areas, including strengthening core scientific and technological research and development. By 2027, the plan aims to establish a nationally leading hub for alternative protein innovation and application.

The plan outlines key core technology research priorities, focusing on cutting-edge areas such as plant protein, microbial protein, and cell-cultured protein, with in-depth research on key technologies. Regarding industrial system development, a systematic "3+X" industrial development system will be established to solidify the foundation of the industry. The "plant protein industry" will focus on technological upgrades and large-scale production of plant-based meat and milk alternatives, developing new nutritional products tailored to the needs of specific consumer groups such as those with allergies and teenagers. The "microbial protein industry" will strive to overcome key core technological bottlenecks in biomanufacturing, such as those involving filamentous fungi, and establish a clear path from laboratory research and development to industrial-scale production. The "cell-cultured protein industry" will prioritize research on the foundational technologies for cell-cultured protein, achieving breakthroughs in efficient cell proliferation and differentiation techniques to achieve large-scale, efficient, and stable cell growth. In addition to these three key areas, the plan also encourages the exploration of other development areas, such as insect protein and synthetic protein, to promote innovative applications in diverse fields such as animal feed and functional foods.

The formulation of this "Plan" means that the microbial protein industry is about to usher in new opportunities for development. Announcement on the Public Solicitation of Comments on the Pinggu District Action Plan to Accelerate the Innovation and Development of Synthetic Biology Manufacturing (2024-2026) (Draft for Comments)

As we all know, protein accounts for as much as 16-20% of human body weight. As the core substance of life activities, protein plays an irreplaceable and important role in the systematic support of human body structure and function.

The "Key Technologies and Industrial Applications for the Production of Microbial Protein by Fermentation with Fusarium brevicaulis" project has been appraised by the China Light Industry Federation. The appraisal opinion concluded that the overall technology of this project, especially the technology for selecting and breeding microbial strains for high-quality protein production, has reached an internationally advanced level. Furthermore, the "Key Technologies and Industrial Applications for the Biomanufacturing of Microbial Protein from Filamentous Fungi" project was recognized as one of the Top Ten Advances in Chinese Food Science and Technology in 2024.
